Snow Day!

Well, it snowed last night. The kids have the day off for teacher
development anyway so we're not going to have to make up any summer
days for this one.
I was shocked to discover both kids lounging in their rooms- August
with his DS and Hazel still in her undies drawing a picture. Tank is
the only family member out making tracks in the snow.

Stinkin' Spoons!

I'm sure you've all heard...the spoons worked...it started snowing on Saturday afternoon. we had advanced warning from Aunt Kathleen and our friend Rachel that it had started snowing in their neighborhoods so Hazel and I ran outside to wait. it started with a light dusting:But then it kept on coming:
And coming...and coming.
I'm pretty sure we lost the persimmons again this year....lost em last year too. one of these years I'll get to taste a fresh one.
The snow continued all night and into the next day. August didn't get to play outside because he was suffering through a soar throat and fever.
The kids are more convinced than ever that the spoons are to blame for the snow. While August and I were walking the dog today he suggested that maybe his cousins Zane and Audrey should try sleeping with 15 spoons under their beds because they live in California and it would probably take a few more spoons to get it to snow out there.
Noah and Ezra, you guys should probably steer clear of spoons in your beds...don't think you guys need any help in the snow area!

Snow

August came home from school yesterday with an idea. He was told by a friend that if you sleep with a spoon under your pillow it will snow the next day. He mentioned this to me at dinner with a shy voice and asked if he could have a spoon before bed. I told him that I wasn't sure it would work. He then quietly mentioned that he already had the spoon in his room and couldn't he just try? When I agreed Hazel ran to the kitchen and opened the silverware drawer and ran back to her room.
Somewhere around 11:30 I heard a spoon drop to the floor in Hazel's room.
This morning both kids woke up pretty easily, they both had snow on their minds. Hazel was the first one to run to the window, sadly disappointed that the streets were dry. August was next, his eyes were sparkling, he just knew the spoon had worked. His shoulders slumped as the curtains parted...no snow. I felt as though I had let my children down and talked about how it may still snow today...there are 24 hours in a day and we should not give up hope.
Hazel sadly announced that she found her spoon on the floor this morning so it's probably her fault its not snowing. I reassured her that it was not her fault because the spoon was still under her pillow which was on the floor too.
Right before we left for school I checked the local weather. August was excited to see that there is a chance for snow both today and tomorrow. All is not lost. If he can believe in the power of a spoon I'm pretty sure we've got at least 2 more years of Santa left.

sunday morning we woke up to trees covered in these very cool crystals. the streets were icy but drivable so we ventured out to church.
monday we had no school in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. so we went out to eat at one of our favorite breakfast joints. trey went off to work as the music industry never sleeps and the kids and i went out to visit our friends the nyssen family. yummy tea and snacks for the girls while the boys sat around yelling their accomplishments on their DS game systems.

today we woke to find several inches on snow all around us...AGAIN with the no school!
it was supposed to stop snowing at 10am, but here it is, 10:59 and the snow is still coming down. the kids aren't even that excited to go out in it... the novelty has worn off. i did convince them to go out and take this picture of a footprint though. i'll probably bundle us up and see if Cloud City has opened its doors. we just have to get out of this house!
