He Caved!

So you might have heard that Seattle got some snow...and it shut down the whole city.
The kids were super excited when the first flakes started to fall.
It started on the 21st and didn't really stop until Thanksgiving. I was a bit afraid that we'd have to miss some of our guests but everyone made it to the house safe and sound.
But before we had Thanksgiving and before the snow really hit us, we brought the kids out to a local nursery to see the reindeer.
Trey has always stuck to waiting to celebrate Christmas until after Thanksgiving. This means no Christmas music, no Christmas drinks and NO Cranberry Bliss Bar from Starbucks.
But guess what? The snow got to him...and he totally bought one! And then? When we got back into the car? Yup! He turned on some Christmas music!!

Now that Thanksgiving is over we are officially getting into the Christmas spirit. Even our dogs are getting in on it...although they aren't as excited as the rest of us.

Had a super busy day today and I haven't really been attached to my camera as of late so this months installment of 10 on 10 is via my camera phone:

Hazel didn't have to fake this smile at all...the sugar when right to her head.August could not be distracted from the task at hand.
I'm pretty happy that there is school for the kids tomorrow...I've got some time in the gym coming my way after all these sweet treats this weekend.

Well, this is my 200th post. I started the blog in December of 2006 as a way to keep all the grandparents abreast of what my family is doing. It's grown from a family journal into a way to keep up with friends and family all over the U.S. and NZ!
I'm pretty happy with the way things have evolved and think perhaps things might get a bit more personal as the months wear on. Spring is here (although our weather forecast is calling for SNOW on Thursday!!) and it's time to clean house...who knows what will be uncovered!

The other day I made note of that beautiful bird necklace...guess what I got?Isn't it lovely?!

Hazel and I spent some time playing Jenga after school today. This isn't something we usually do but with the days getting longer and longer I'm finding the need to fill the space between homework and dinner. August wasn't interested, he just wanted to read in his room (he reminds me so much of what Scott was like as a child).

WWSD?

So I'm driving the car with the kids in the back. We're just coming home from a visit to Starbucks after school (we occasionally do homework there). August and Hazel are chatting about something when I start to fade into their conversation. Hazel is talking about a project she is working on in school and August is not really interested in her silly kindergarten work right now. She asks something like, "...and do you know what color I will make it?" To which August, in his most uninterested voice says, "no and I don't want to know."
I jump into the conversation and say, "mmm, let's try that again. Hazel, ask August that question again and August, respond in a better way."
So Hazel asks the question again and August responds THE SAME! I pause and ask August if he'd like me to respond to his questions that way. "I don't know what you mean." So we role play. At the end of this session I say, "Do unto others as you'd want them to do to you." Then August says, "Let me guess, you read that on your starbucks cup right?"
Pause.
"Nope August, it's actually from the Bible..."

Turning 6

H is turning 6 this week. it's hard to believe that she's in kindergarten, she's learning how to read and write. she's got friends. she pretends to talk to her aunt kat on a broken phone. she's a big girl now. i'll blink and she'll be in high school.

This is Halloween

The kids were very excited to get the house ready for all their friends to ring our bell.
Trey tried this outfit out but decided to go as sponge bob instead. He's a big hit with the kids!
Trey bought me this A-MAZING vest from k-mart. I'm dressed up as an elementary students mom (see earlier blog about the field trip with H). The sick thing is that I saw 2 moms sporting this rad vest for real! They liked it! They bought it to wear!
A is an injured skateboarder while H when as a cowgirl. I really liked these costumes because...well...they didn't cost me a dime!
And Tank...well...Tank went as a cute little pumpkin dog...well, I guess that's not true. He made it around the block with the kids and Trey but really couldn't handle the dark, the cold, or the idea of his humans walking up to houses without him...then Trey ran him back to me to greet all the neighborhood kids at our door.
