Lesson Learned

You remember that movie, Marley and Me? The one where the dog eats everything in sight and destroys the furniture but the owners just love, love, love him anyway? I've never actually seen the movie, but it was playing on a plane ride and I was able to listen to all the sobs from the many, many passengers who were watching it.
We've been pretty lucky with our dogs. Jack Russell Terriers can have some crazy behaviors, including some pretty severe separation anxiety. Our dogs are good, they sleep in their kennels and have a bed upstairs that they rest on during the day if they need it. We always kennel them when we leave the house because, well, Tank taught us a lesson when he was about 5 months old and he ate 2 holes in the hallway wall. Since that time, they have been kenneled.
This summer has brought us late nights and restful mornings, which means that we're all waking up when our bodies are good and ready...around 10:00...it's lovely. But poor Trey has to wake up and get going earlier so he's been letting the dogs out and keeping them away from our bedrooms so we can continue to rest. It's worked very well all summer. Until today.
Today Trey woke up before everyone else and let the dogs out. The gate was up by the hallway leading to the bedrooms and the back door was open so the dogs could play outside. Once Trey left Penny apparently got bored of all the room outside and came in to see what she could do in the living room.

And this is what she did. To our brand new coffee table. Hazel found it first and was very quiet about it. When I came out of my room she implored me to not be too mad but that Penny did something real bad.
Oh, yes, this is real bad. We all got dressed and took the dogs for a long walk to the pet store and bought a big bottle of Bitter Yuck to spray on every piece of furniture.
I'm not sure this dog will be with us much longer if this becomes a habit for her. Trey and I are nothing like the owners of Marley.

Doors

We've been busy fixing the house a bit as of late. I've shown you the bathroom...we've also replaced our front door and garage door...and we've created (and by we, I mean Graham Travis Contractors of course!) a real bedroom downstairs...with a legal window and a closet. Now you'll all have a place to sleep when you come and stay with us...you are coming aren't you?

Potty Talk

Ladies, we have a bathroom!!!!
The mirrors were the last thing we needed to complete this project...and they came in today!!!





We used our friends at GTR Contracting for this project (and the kitchen remodel and the downstairs remodel...which will be another post).

Bathroom Update

These two were taken on October 2nd. The plumber was working super hard at replacing all the bells and whistles in the wall:

So it's coming along. We've been doing this for how long now? I still have to catch myself from walking to this bathroom to use it...and August was throwing up last night, thank God he made it all the way downstairs!!

Day 2

So this is where the sink and toilet were just days ago. I totally don't know what I'm talking about, but they've cut out the area to make room for the new plumbing. We're going to have a double sink and one of those new-fangled double flush toilets...fancy!
This is where the tub and shower were. They took the tile work right off the wall and (I think) they're going to put a new wall up for the subway tile. Our tub should be coming today.
They found some mold in the corner where the toilet was so they had to cut away some of the wall to allow it to dry out. We just had to do this to the downstairs bathroom because the water heater had a slow leak and molded out lots of wall down there.
So, that was yesterday...they were sawing and hammering and making all kinds of crazy sounds while Hazel (who has strep) and I sat downstairs watching our Muppet Show DVDs. Good times.

The Bathroom

This odd picture is the only one I have of the bathroom as it looked yesterday. It was actually taken before we bought the house...our realitor was showing us the "awesome" sink and toilet from 1947!!

They tore through the room pretty quickly I think. I'll continue taking pictures throughout the project...
